Mobile phone holder for vans

I’ve been looking for a good mobile phone holder for vans for a while now, and I think the Kriogor (formerly Turnraise) holder meets my expectations.

I recently saw the Ram Mount mobile phone holders, which look very good, but in my view, they’re far too expensive. After doing a bit of research, I’ve found one that’s quite similar; it’s Chinese-made but still looks the part.

The Kriogor mount is designed to be attached to the handlebars of bikes, motorbikes or quads. It comes with various accessories for securing it, including flat brackets or ‘U’-shaped clamps to attach it to the handlebars.

But when I saw it, I thought I could come up with a way to mount it on the dashboard of the T3 Syncro. It struck me as a fairly stable mount that wouldn’t move around if I were driving off-road.
That’s the main advantage of this particular mount. Most mounts are either suction-cup types with plastic arms that wobble like a wobbly pudding, or magnetic mounts that are highly likely to end up on the floor of the van when you hit a bump.

So, I found it stable for two reasons: firstly, because of how it’s secured – with the flat mount featuring two holes, I could screw it onto the dashboard – and secondly, because it has an aluminium alloy arm (I can confirm it’s an alloy because it’s quite heavy; it doesn’t feel like aluminium).

Another feature of this mount is that it comes with a USB port for charging your mobile. All you need to do is connect the cables to the battery (it’s highly advisable to fit a fuse). It also has a switch at the base of the mount, so there’s no need to leave it connected to the positive terminal whilst the ignition is off.
